The fastest way to get more clients. Probably not what you think.


Are you sick and tired of constantly “chasing” new prospects for your fitness business?

This past weekend Luka and I held a Vegas Mastermind Retreat with our coaching clients and some of the best young minds in the industry.

One HUGE takeaway from the event was seeing how most of our guys and girl (yes we have only one woman brave tough enough so far to be a pack member–> way to go Taryn!), was that they want to be paid what they are worth.

The question we had back was, “What do you think you are worth?”

Take a second and seriously ponder that question.

Do you know what you are truly worth? If so, is that what you are charging? So many trainers base their pricing on what other trainers in their area are charging. PLEASE DON’T DO THIS! You should be the most expensive option in your area because you are the BEST! If you aren’t the best, then get your ass in gear and study relentlessly until you are.

What does pricing have to do with getting more clients, you ask?

Let me tell you.

Higher price conveys higher value. Why are there always waiting lists for Mercedes, Ferraris, and Lambos?

People want to get into the hottest cars, and hottest clubs, and they will pay a handsome amount of money to do so.

The same principle works in the personal training arena. If you are thecheapest, then people will not value your service. You will actually draw more PIA (Pain in the Ass) clients .

The more a person is invested in what you do, the better. They will train harder, follow nutrition, talk about the program more, and refer like machines!

Go look at your prices and see if you are still “playing small.” If you are, it’s time to crank those prices up so you can make more money by attracting the right type of clients.

Monday Motivation: What’s your (self) limit?

Hope you’re doing great.

I’m just getting up and about to get a fasted training session in to get the day going before I do some work and then fly back to Seattle.

I’m in Vegas as we just had a crazy intense weekend with our Pack Family at the residential.

For 2 days we covered the A to Z of how to create a remarkable business and how to get both a consistent stream of leads coming in as well as how to instantly get a surge of business through some ninja tactics (the guys that are just getting started will kill it with this strategy and give the business momentum).

We didn’t want to just go and give a bunch of “strategies” though. We wanted to break down exactly how they will always have a stream of leads coming in but also how to consistently improve the quality of their business (the skill, experience) so that it is “the” fitness business in the area and one that can leave a legacy in the long run and create the lifestyle they deserve.

I see too many tips and tricks and the truth is that you can market great and lead people to an unremarkable business and all it will do is make people see that you are “ok,” if that. If the service is not remarkable then even great marketing won’t help.

There are so many great trainers and fitness businesses that are changing people’s lives and really making a difference but are not where they deserve to be.

Sometimes it’s not knowing what to do next.

Sometimes its paralysis by analysis.

Almost always it is self limiting beliefs.

It doesn’t matter what strategies you get if you are always sabotaging your success because of your self-limiting beliefs.

Why do you not think you are worth more and are constantly undercharging and comparing prices to other trainers in the area?

Why are you not taking action on certain things you know you need to do?

If your business is not where you want it to be, why are you not seeking help?

When you are offering higher priced programs and you are not selling them, is it because you also do not invest in things you need (just like the person you are trying to help) so that is what you project out there?

Do you have a negative relationship with money (you were brought up believing that money is evil and/or your parents didn’t do well with saving and investing) that makes you subconsciously reject it?

You have to get your belief systems in place before you can move forward and be successful.

If you have put in the work and you bust your butt and you deliver results and a great experience to your clients, changing their lives, you deserve to have a thriving business that helps even more people and creates the lifestyle you want.

Stop with the self limiting beliefs first then take action steps to achieve your vision.

Our beliefs and thoughts shape what we do consciously and subconsciously.

Be honest and think about that before you add another “tip” or “trick” to your business strategy.

Can you afford not to?

Doesn’t it drive you crazy when you are sitting down with a potential client, everything is going great, you develop rapport, the assessment is done, you present them with your membership options and then they hit you with…”I Can’t Afford It”…?

Gets me every damn time!

The real question you need to ask them is “Can you afford not to?”

The insane part is that so many fitness professionals and facility owners end up using the same words when it comes to investing in their own business growth. Have you ever had an opportunity that you knew in your soul would catapult your business into the next level, yet you held yourself back with those same words?

I have.

NO joke.

It comes down to cost vs. investment.

As soon as I began looking at coaching, masterminds, mentorships, and other programs as an investment, my business EXPLODED…and yours will too.

One of my biggest take-aways from the last 8 years of owning my facility is thatTHE MORE INVESTED I WAS IN SOMETHING, THE MORE ACTION I TOOK.

Don’t think you can’t afford it, know that you can’t afford not to.

Monday Motivation: How remarkable are you?

Hope you’re doing great.

I’m just getting up and am about to go to Krebs’ gym, Next Level Athletic Performance, to knock out my lower body training session.

I flew to upstate NY to get some work done and plan out some big projects we’re working on. It’s one thing to be on the phone daily and communicate through email and FB, and another to get together and sit down, map out what you will do, how you will do it, and when you will do it by.

A plan, accountability, and deadlines are real important and help with not being the people that say “I’ll get it to it.”

It’s amazing how much more you can get done when you have structure. I’ve always hustled hard but when I started having a plan for when to work on specific projects, I started getting a lot more done.

What’s also important to know is that I reward what I “do” rather than what I “achieve.”

Its similar to what we tell our clients, to focus on the daily compliance/habits vs. stepping on the scale every day and focusing on the achievement.

The “do’s” create the achievement!

When we set up projects, one of the things we always strive to do is make them remarkable.

Follow the law of remarkability, which says that for a mission-driven project to succeed, it should be “remarkable” in two different ways. First, it must compel people who encounter it to remark about it to others. Second, it must be launched in a venue that supports such remarking.

It’s important to get your message out. A message that attracts people into your business (or to your project).

It might be with your newsletter.

It may be on Facebook (organic and ads).

It may be through joint venture partners.

It may be SEO.

It could be a number of other things.

Regardless of what it is, if it is not remarkable or you are not on a mission to make it remarkable, then it won’t compel people to share it with others. Or even worse, what if it compels people to share that it was not good or just ok?

Remarkability has to be part of the foundation you strive to build.

There are 3 things we need to do to grow our business:

  1. Attract new prospects (lead generation)
  2. Convert prospects into members/clients
  3. Retain members (create a family/community)

Without being remarkable it will be tough to do #1 and #2 and pretty much impossible to do #3.

You have to strive to be remarkable with getting your clients results and creating a unique experience that includes “WOW,” appreciation, and the feeling of belonging to something bigger.

We always strive to improve on both fronts, whether it’s improving the message and marketing to get people through the doors and experience what you do, or continuously making what you offer more remarkable.

This way the people are compelled to share their experience and the business grows so much faster because of referrals and you also get retention, higher value out of existing clients, and much more.

Never forget the law of remarkability.

I keep a BIG question on my idea board in my office that asks:

“Can you be more remarkable today?”

This keeps pushing me to improve the foundation daily.

The question you should ask yourself is can you be more remarkable?

Make it a habit.

How much money do you need?

How much money would it take for you to be happy with your business? Is there a “Magic Number” in monthly revenue that would help you achieve your goals?

What would you do to reach that number? Honestly, is there anything you wouldn’t do?

As a fitness professional you have to wear so many hats. Trainer, Nutrition Expert, Therapist, Motivational Speaker, Admin, Janitor, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on. You get so caught up in program design, finding more clients, finding their “WHY,” helping them with their problems, that there isn’t much left over for you! Are you missing your own workouts because you are absolutely smoked at the end of the day?

I have been there, my friend, and it isn’t a great place to be.

Do you love yourself enough?

What you do in the privacy of your own home is your business. 😉

All jokes aside, have you ever wondered why you self-sabotage? Why do you indulge negative ideas, actions, and habits?

Why don’t you love yourself?

You are human, and you are your own worst enemy.

The fact of the matter is “You’ll never sit in first class on the plane of life if you continue to have second class expectations of yourself.”

This is where this shit gets fun:

Take 10 minutes to answer the following questions.

1) What is my favorite body part and why?

2) List 10 things I love about myself.

3) What are my top 3 traits?

How much easier do you think it would have been to answer questions like, “If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?” …Exactly my point.

To achieve amazing things, you must first be willing to do amazing things. Before you can do amazing things, you must believe that you are AMAZING!

This is an uphill battle due to the fact that you have been conditioned to be a “cog in the machine.” Standing out is frowned on. Don’t swim upstream. Don’t dream too big; we wouldn’t want you to be disappointed. Don’t “rock the boat.”

So much of your life comes down to how you value/love yourself. What is your self worth?

The truth is you are 100% unique. There is only one of you in the world, and you were born to stand out. Don’t do your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents injustice by wasting your time here on earth.
Go out and achieve greatness. Show your children how it’s supposed to be done. Leave your footprint here on earth for eternity.

It all starts with LOVE…a mother’s love for her child. It’s time to express that same unconditional love for yourself so that you may live life at full speed.

Answer those questions I listed above every morning when you wake up, and every night when you go to bed. Create this habit of self love, and your ability to love others will increase ten fold.

Monday Motivation: I’m all in; are you?

Hope you had a great weekend and you’re in full throttle summer mode.

Last week, for 4th of July weekend, Krebs and I decided to go to Vegas for some R & R. Just let loose and have fun and not open any e-mails or answer any calls.

The trip was definitely a success and although we came back physically tired, our minds were fresh and ready to go (which was the goal).

Part of the reason we travel a lot is not only to go around the world and learn from the best, but also to experience new things and let our minds relax.

When we travel we like to let go and have a good time.

Yes, we also like to party here and there. Party hard.

People ask me about that sometimes…

…and it brings me back to the concept of “ALL IN.”

When I’m home I bust my butt to make the experience of my clients the best possible and deliver the results.


When I’m studying, learning and improving, I’m engaged because I want to be the best possible. It takes time, effort, and, a lot of times, finances, to do this.

But when I do, I’m ALL IN.

When I decided to change my performance or body composition and want to look a certain way, I’m going to get my meals made, follow my program no matter what and make some sacrifices.

I’m going to be ALL IN!

When I’m at business meetings to grow my vision and have joint partners in big projects, I’m  there 100% ready and professional, no b.s., doing whatever it takes to make that vision become reality.


When I’m with the people I love, whether just small every day things like hanging out and having dinner, or bigger things like vacations, I engage and dedicate my all to it.


Whatever I decided to do, I’m going to be ALL in or it will get scratched off, or maybe it will wait until I can be all in on it.

Now, those things may happen at different times of the day, week, month, or parts of our lives. But when they do, if you want something to really change, you have to be “all in”!

What made me get stuck in the past is that I would complain about things not happening and not getting exactly what I wanted, when the truth was I wasn’t all in. I was “kind of” in or I would do only so much, yet expect to get the full rewards.

It doesn’t work that way. The sooner you realize that the better.

Maybe right now isn’t the time that you can be ALL IN into something. If that’s the case then that’s ok, but just call it what it is and don’t complain that things are not happening like they should.

But if you are really 100% sure about being ready to make a change in a certain area in your life then do it and be ALL IN.

It will change your business, your body, your relationship, your _________ (insert whatever here) when you do.
